Pros

Opportunities for growth if you apply yourself.
Professional work environment.
Good leaders depending on which department your working in.

Cons

Too many politics within the management.
Many senior level leaders lack experience and do not take ownership of issues in their department.
Too many tasks involved in one role.
Constant layoffs make a future unpredictable.
The company relies on incompetent contractors to complete tasks.
Terrible communication between management and employees.
The company is not as stable as it previously was.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management and senior leaders need to be held accountable for lack of productivity in their departments. Get rid of the contractors and replace them with competent Dow employees. This process of using contractors is only costing the company money in the long run.

Former Employee - Leader  in  Midland, MI
Former Employee - Leader in Midland, MI

    Pros

Lots of opportunities if you apply yourself. The pay and benefits are good. Safety is a high priority. The culture in most plants is comfortable.

    Cons

Most of the large locations in the US and their headquarters location, are not places you would prefer to live (Midland, MI; Freeport, TX, etc.). There are too many "Global Leader" level people, and most have no business being there. Majority of employees have no confidence in the CEO.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dow is not going to change significantly until they have a new CEO. There needs to be more thinning out of all the "Global Leader" positions, and it needs to be done in an apolitical way.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Midland, MI

    Pros

Being a very large company, there are opportunities in many different technological areas. Lateral transfers to new areas have been possible. Most of Dow's locations have relatively low cost of living (especially housing).

    Cons

Most of the Dow sites are company towns. This has two consequences: 1. Pretty boring as the community is quite homogeneous. 2. There is little chance to find another job in the same community after you leave Dow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much bureaucracy. Too much top down, without cultivating innovation from lower levels. Although processes are important in areas of safety, for instance, too many procedures stifle innovation and waste talent.
