I have been working at Dow Corning

Pros

the salary is competative with the best pcg firms. though dow corning is mostly b2b, its salary is above companies like P&G. the atmosphere from the people is great. everyone there enjoys their job and nobody feels like they have to work to an excess to get by.

Cons

its in midland michigan which is the middle of michigan. that beings said some people like michigan... im not one of them. midland is a very nice city but the soroundings.. like saginaw (we were housed just north of saginaw) has the highest violent crime rate/ capita in the country.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

they should probably move their interns to a diferent location. saginaw was a little sketchy at times. other than that they have a really great program

Big Business that is the "Worst" case scenerios in many departments

    Pros

The pay is 'good' for the region. Fellow employees, for the most part, are wonderful. If you are there long enough, they likely won't get rid of you. Pay increases are 'good' if you are an employee with tenure.

Some departments offer great work/life balance, but others do not. It is a toss-up.

    Cons

The company feels like a big corporation. Every cliche about big corporations can be found here. I have worked in five different departments, as both employee and contractor, and found that employee satisfaction was low but there are few opportunities in this state, let alone the town. Management is often put into that position because they've been there a long time, not because they have the skills.

Employees are just a number, but you will find other employees who are wonderful people.

There is no personal feel here, you are a cog in a wheel and they let you know. If you don't participate in outside activities with co-workers (these are deemed 'optional'), you will likely not keep your job long.

THis is an 'old' business culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually have management background. Take management classes and listen to employees.
