Current Employee - Research Scientist in Wilmington, DE
Current Employee - Research Scientist in Wilmington, DE

I have been working at DuPont full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Salary, benefits, work-life balance, most people are good to work with.

Great place to work if you work in agriculture and industrial biosciences.

Cons

Poor career development - one is on there own here, leadership does not help at all.

Leadership quality is highly variable - the company does not do a good job of developing people with leadership potential.

Slow decision making processes. This is due to a lack of empowerment at all levels. Too many people are involved in the decision processes and too much consensus is required to get to a decision.

DuPont is in the process of transforming itself from a material science company into a agricultural/industrial biosciences based company. As such opportunities and job security for material scientists are becoming scarce.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Former Employee - Business Process Specialist in Wilmington, DE

I worked at DuPont full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary is competitive, great benefits, Industry Reputation, Work Life is great, most people are highly educated

    Cons

    - Reorganization of corporate functions is disruptive to new employee moral
    - Eliminating high level positions, distributing the work load
    - Managers seem to be found of hiring their children
    - Cost cutting limits productivity and moral
    - Older employees for the most part have the 'golden handcuffs on and do not want rock the boat or speak up to leadership'
    - Top leadership say one thing and do the opposite
    - Old demographics- average age is 54-60
    - The culture is very weird, people are afraid to speak their mind, it really depends who you work for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice for college hires (non-engineering): Unless you are happy being very bored all the time and analyzing things that have been analyzed for the past 20 years- I would recommend looking at other companies -OR- Stay away from the Black Belt and entry level consulting roles that are in the Centers of Excellence.

    Over 20 years with Company

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    I worked at DuPont

    Pros

Safety very important. Great benefits and good pay. Finally having a woman CEO!

    Cons

Management of people. There are managers in every business who should not manage. More training needed for them. People 3 treatment must be improved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people doing the jobs. Don't make decisions from the top down. Get rid of all parties who are involved in workplace indiscretions not just the high level employee. It's bad for employee morale. I experienced it.
