I have been working at Duke Energy full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

pay is great. they really focus on education and do all they can to get you the education needed.
great benefits. always changing. keeps you on your toes and helps you grow.

Cons

There is a lot of favoritism to the senior people. There are hypocritical decisions made often. They say they are focusing on one thing and then make a decision that is the complete opposite.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

more consulting through the chains should happen before decisions are made. i see a lot of decisions made by people that don't understand the business they are leading that directly affect how the job gets done. some decisions are so far off that they cannot be followed in the field while getting the job done. This creates a whole fleet of technicians doing things against the rules to get their job done. They know the rules were created by people who have never done the job themselves so they get used to going around the rules. this creates a unsafe/unproductive behavior at times.

I worked at Duke Energy as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Some good technical experience. Great name to have on resume. A few coworkers were amazing to work with.

    Cons

Not enough work given to interns. Often times sat around surfing the internet aimlessly for hours (after continuously asking for more work). A lot of the work given was database entry/organization. Lack of opportunity. No mentor-ship or professional development. Supervisor maybe talked to me 5 times the entire summer. Full time engineering jobs seem to be "cookie cutter" jobs across the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change culture in nuclear to bring the next generation of young employees in. Encourage professional development and reward hard working employees.
