I have been working at Duke University full-time

Pros

Awesome campus. Even more awesome weather, spring for about 9 months of year. Funding quite good, being a private school, at researcher better paid than most other places at these times of recession. Tenure track to getting tenure ratio decently high, though process can be strenous.

Cons

Some ultra rich and snobbish people. Durham not great to live in, housing close to the university limited, parking ultra expensive at University. Safety issues - some mugging incidents, specially during winter near University.

I worked at Duke University full-time

    Pros

Wonderful colleagues; innovative environment; motivated and high-achieving students. Encourage you to share new ideas, collaborate with others across campus, and take part in professional development opportunities. Excellent benefits and perks both on and off campus. Fun environment to work.

    Cons

Slow to make changes to programming; ideas and innovations are shared and enthusiastically discussed, but often not acted upon; students and parents can be demanding, causing employees to stretch themselves thin to be "everything to everyone". Although benefits and perks are great, compensation is inadequate for the amount of work and long hours demanded.
