Pros

Duke tries to be pro-active with helping employees with things like commute cost, health insurance, etc. Graduate students have official advocates on staff. Fairly liberal compensation policies, and a stable workplace feel. Accommodations for kids, etc. Pets are allowed as long as one is responsible for them.

Cons

The impression among staff is that pay and promotions are somewhat stagnant. Hard negotiators and up-and-comers would be loathe to work here unless they are in upper management. Parking is always an issue.

    Pros

Duke has great flexible schedules. Mostly because there are very little deadlines that need to be kept.

    Cons

Extremely poor leadership in Information Technology. Managers have moved up the ladder simply by politics and not by merit. They care little for their staff and are rarely seen.

    Advice to Management

The Administration really needs overahaul its functional support areas. The university standards are so low and are so far behind the times. A total reevaluation of the staffing model should be considered for more efficiency, better talent, happier employees, and cost effectiveness

  2. Loving every minute that I work with international students.
