Determination and communication will get you far within the company - ask how you can get ahead and you just might!

Team Lead, Customer Service (Former Employee)

ProsYoung company - their youth makes them more aggressive at implementing new technologies and providing new products for the customers.
Growing company - though the economic downturn has had it's toll on many companies, E*TRADE is still focused on growth. They constantly promote expanding their customer base by offering new products and undertaking more business partnerships.
Fast paced - there's always something new and different happening. You may find that you're in customer service but working on other projects and working with other departments.
Potential for career development - though costs can be an issue if you speak with management about improving your skills if it's a plus for the company you may get what you ask for.

ConsYoung management - not that age makes you a more skilled manager, but a manager or team lead with 1 or 2 years of work experience in total, even with a degree, doesn't have all the skills needed to lead a group (especially when more than the half the group is older than them).
Lack of focus on core functionality - new features are great for the customer, but sometimes the drive to put out new features overshadows the necessities of correcting systems that are long overdue for a fix.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore performance evaluations - a once a month/quarter/year evaluation isn't good enough for most people. Going over stats also isn't entirely giving a representative a good evaluation either.
Honesty - not that you can tell your representatives everything, but for major issues it's better to let your workers know the situation than to wait until the last minute and create confusion and mistrust.

I don't see a long term career opportunity at E*TRADE.

Financial Service Representative (Current Employee)
Alpharetta, GA

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial

Pros: They did paid me to get my series 7 &… Cons: The pay is really bad. They are all about the negative and you are never told about the positive. Can you say Micro-Managers that get… Advice to Senior Management: Not everything is a metric and a number. If you didn't focus on each individuals number, those individuals might actually spend time to work with… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
