Pros

The company provides alot of training and courses to educate yourself. We had access to many videos and investment courses, and the company website is very informative for both clients and employees.

Cons

Office politics play a big role in determining promotions and the work environment is very strict for Financial Services Representatives.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Etrade management should focus on promoting individuals that do a great job and not promote individuals based on politics or personal relationships.

    Pros

Young company - their youth makes them more aggressive at implementing new technologies and providing new products for the customers.
Growing company - though the economic downturn has had it's toll on many companies, E*TRADE is still focused on growth. They constantly promote expanding their customer base by offering new products and undertaking more business partnerships.
Fast paced - there's always something new and different happening. You may find that you're in customer service but working on other projects and working with other departments.
Potential for career development - though costs can be an issue if you speak with management about improving your skills if it's a plus for the company you may get what you ask for.

    Cons

Young management - not that age makes you a more skilled manager, but a manager or team lead with 1 or 2 years of work experience in total, even with a degree, doesn't have all the skills needed to lead a group (especially when more than the half the group is older than them).
Lack of focus on core functionality - new features are great for the customer, but sometimes the drive to put out new features overshadows the necessities of correcting systems that are long overdue for a fix.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More performance evaluations - a once a month/quarter/year evaluation isn't good enough for most people. Going over stats also isn't entirely giving a representative a good evaluation either.
Honesty - not that you can tell your representatives everything, but for major issues it's better to let your workers know the situation than to wait until the last minute and create confusion and mistrust.

You learn very fast to get out of the way of the train.

    Pros

The innovative culture gives you opportunities to continue with the process improvement. Internal transfers can broaden your work experiences and strengthen customer focus.

    Cons

The work place environment overly depends on competition, which reduces cooperation amongst varying departments and ranks. Also, employees are constantly in the dark, there are too many secrets.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Motivate your employees with better incentives/rewards, you can start by adopting best practices from 10 companies Best Places to Work. Stop managing people by fear, otherwise it will continue to drive away your best talent.
