Pros

Good benefits. Some very genuine people who love aviation. Dedicated staff. Some kind souls and talented individuals to work with. If you are a pilot and or land in the right dept it can be a great place to be.

Cons

It's an odd place. There are many people who have been there a long time and so it almost becomes too close knit, the situation of "not seeing the forest for the trees" seems to occur in house. Some departments are amazing, the men at EAA seem to work well together but many women are very catty, very cliquey. There are those who are there who degrade what EAA should stand for and be and truly don't care about it, to them it's just a job or a power play. They have safety though due to who or what they know or how long they've been there.

Advice to Management

Start with letting reviews of the management happen from the ground up. Employees should have a voice to offer anonymously to their supervisors and managers. Managers feedback should not just be read by that manager but the one above them. Also, environments should be more diversified and less static. Managers and supervisors should receive training on personnel skills and learn to give positive feedback when it is due.

I worked at EAA full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

AirVenture is a very neat event and offers several opportunities for staff to shine. It's easy to give the organization the benefit of the doubt because of AirVenture. Pay is good considering it's a non-profit.

    Cons

Horrible corporate culture, poor work-life balance. It's a very cliquey, gossipy organization. I never knew who I could trust, and the people I could trust, many others felt they could not. Some members and volunteers are disrespectful, and unfortunately, that group is the most vocal group, so you are rarely hearing from the good ones. That same attitude carried over from members/volunteers to staff, creating an overall environment of disrespect.

    Advice to Management

You have good people in place, but for some reason, things aren't clicking like they should to give the organization direction. You also need to hold everyone on staff accountable to the same standards and not be afraid to clean house when someone isn't performing up to the standards. Also, lead by example. Actions speak louder than words and the only way the culture will change is if you show your staff how it has to change.
