I worked at EBSCO Publishing as an intern for less than a year

Pros

Reputable company with great work environment. Got to choose work hours, so was allowed to come early and leave early. Great company events. Company softball was a particular highlight. Subsidized cafeteria was another plus.

Cons

Can be slow at some points, but that is to be expected as an intern.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the family atmosphere. I actually got to meet the CEO which is rare in many companies nowadays.

I have been working at EBSCO Publishing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Great people to work with
    - Nice perks like low-cost onsite cafe, free gym, company outings (e.g. Winter Party)
    - Flex time and telecommute are possible for some positions
    - Decent benefits package
    - Good entry level positions

    Cons

    - Few opportunities for advancement; higher level positions are usually filled from outside
    - The buildings are nice but often poorly temperature controlled and have ongoing construction projects, making it difficult to concentrate on work
    - Interdepartmental communication tends to be poor

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Focus more on developing talent internally for higher level positions
    - Improve communication among all departments

    Excessive workload, unrealistic expectations

I have been working at EBSCO Publishing full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Profit sharing and health insurance

    Cons

The customer comes first at EBSCO Publishing, no matter at what cost to the employee. Excessive workload piled on, no recognition for hard work. Unrealistic goals to attain and if you don't reach them, here come the warnings/then termination. Seen it happen too many times in my department. EP wants to be a billion dollar company at any cost. Burn the employee out and just move onto the next. Good luck if you're thinking of working there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hopefully your customers will smarten up and stop buying your products, since most break anyways, and they can't access the content they're paying for. The only thing that management cares about is the almighty dollar. Can't handle the work, then get out.
