I have been working at ECRI Institute

Pros

Great work environment, flexible and competent management, skilled, expert staff, great collaboration between departments, good benefits

Cons

slight undercompensation, very few managerial roles, lack of communication between project officers

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior managment juggle too many tasks. They should be willing to develop managerial roles to help with the work burden and to allow directors to focus on high level tasks.

    I worked at ECRI Institute

    Pros

Great mission, well-respected name in the industry. There are a lot of resources available for employees to make use of for projects. A number of highly knowledgeable staff members are also great resources and well-respected in the healthcare community

    Cons

Zero upward mobility, unless someone quits or leaves. The company is a big fan of giving titles and money to "squeaky wheel" staff to keep them. Non-profit mentality pervades everything, from marketing plans to salary increases, and an "it's always been done this way" air is changing, but very slowly. Very few staff and management have actually worked in hospitals (most have either research backgrounds or spent their entire time at ECR Institute) , which is a problem when the data doesn't match real world patient care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the marketplace more, and pick out what the more successful competitors are doing both for staff and clients. Start reviewing mid- and senior-level management against staff satisfaction and attrition rates. Might be beneficial.

Poor management, unsustainable business model, refusal to keep up with times

    I worked at ECRI Institute

    Pros

Great mission, diverse work, good flexibility (work from home, on the road), open cubicles and laid-back culture; free coffee and soda, often free food in cafeteria

    Cons

some management is resistant to change and keeping up with changing times (poor website cited as major obstacle to subscribing from clients for years and still has not been updated); culture is sometimes too laid back; hard to get things done; pay is below industry standard and raises are minimal

senior execs favors business units that are the big winners, when you have no control over this due to the business models set up; upward mobility is slim to none, based on time there instead of performance

oh - and the place feels depressing, the colors are all dull and dark, and there's no windows on the first floor

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication of expectations to employees; fix website; update business models; install windows
