I worked at EMC full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

EMC encourages employees to review the company and management yearly and in turn they attempt to make changes in a few targeted problematic areas based on the results. The company understands its place in the market and continues to do well. Excellent benefits for employees including quarterly bonuses.

Cons

Upper management churn in the division I worked in sometimes went from bad to worse. Communication to the lower levels was poor and sometimes it seems decisions were made without the big picture locally. Distance in locations very likely played a roll in the disconnects.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Paying closer attention to details in the lower parts of a division and better communication would go a long way to changing an image that was shared by many. Obviously this is targeted to a specific division and it is not a reflection on the company as a whole. My experience with EMC as a company was outstanding.

    Pros

    Peers are great to work with

    Cons

    -Salaries are so low there is no incentive to advance stick it out as hourly
    -Management holds employees accountable for them not meeting their bonuses.
     Quote from last meetin - "You are taking food off of my childrens plates"
    They lack the ability to properly motivate and manage a work group.
    Force us to start work 30 minutes before our shift starts and refuse to pay us for that 30 minutes.

    Field service employees working together towards a common goal - to ensure quality customer service.

    Cons

    Middle management lacks the ability to get the job done - company is top heavy and has a lot of dead weight.

    Re-evaluate your purpose and provide "real" goals that drive success and not mimic it.
