I have been working at EMC full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

No matter what function or level, this is a fast paced company, with a ruthless focus on results. Take initiative and be passionate about your work. Lots of talented people work here, especially early in career.
Can be an exciting an vibrant experience.
Once you've earned your stripes, you also earn trust and flexibility.
Progressive regarding remote working in most cases.

Cons

Command and control, hierarchical culture.
Pervasive toxic leadership in some organizations.
Lots of politics and emphasis on flash instead of substance.
Some lifers have become complacent and are enabled to remain while offering little to no value.
For an 'innovative' high tech company, they are laden with red tape and process.
Resources are tight and headcount is almost impossible to grow. Even replacing a person who leaves voluntarily or is let go is difficult. This results in poor performers staying on longer than they should - even at very senior levels.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward healthy leaders rather than those that strong arm.
Invest in management development, especially in the Sales and HR organizations.

I have been working at EMC full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Working with intelligent people that are passionate about building the business. If you align yourself with the right people, they will look out for your advancement. Leadership can often easily identify the top performers. Excellent benefits and great pay (but you must negotiate your salary). Restricted Stock Units. Great in-house training programs.

    Cons

EMC really does mean "Everything Must Change" Too many re-orgs that are are not properly thought out, impacting careers and current business. Takes months to recover. Seniority and connections sometime mean more than performance. Little governance around sales - they are allowed to run the business and cause their own share of harm by either selling professional services that are close to impossible to deliver, or wearing out large accounts by just pushing the same products on a refresh cycle. No program to reward non-sales roles that push a huge amount of revenue to sales teams. Unable to hire for specific skillsets, often wasting money / time trying to train when experience is needed. Tucci is not as visible as he once was and his leadership team is showing it as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-Orgs should be designed around building and protecting the current business, not simplifying in-house. Governance between sales and delivery needs to be established. Needs to be a rewards program for non-sales roles that are continually identifying opportunities that actually sell.

I have been working at EMC full-time

    Pros

Good work life balance, pays well, respected in the industry

    Cons

Too siloed, there are so many business units, sometime competing with each other, there is a lack of coordination or teamwork
Dont rock the boat mentality, leave good enough alone

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Why settle for good enough when there is opportunity and people willing to make things better.
