I have been working at EMC full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great technology, training and work from home

Cons

Lack of diversity, poor work life balance. Very difficult corporate culture, not a good place if you are female or a minority. There's a reason why this company is never on the 'Best Companies to Work for' list!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's no hope here. Any change would mean they would not have jobs.

I worked at EMC full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Willing to use technology to provide a better work life balance. Example ..telecommuting. The employees are knowledgeable and willing to teach ,train, learn. Middle management is flexible and willing to assist.

    Cons

Not much opportunity for career advancement /pay increase. Not strong in communicating goals and plan. Division of labor between groups leads to confusion & company is extremely top heavy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

share in the wealth. value the people making you your bonus.

I have been working at EMC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Lots of Technology, most people are great to work with, training is encouraged, benefits are average, some work flexibility. You can stay busy enough to at least think your position is stable and will last into the future. Sometimes the appearance of a well disciplined, cooperating workforce. The infrequent corporate events are enjoyable.

    Cons

Over measurement of performance, a numbers game that creates unnecessary crises. You work hard for built in bonus system which only makes your overall pay a bit below average, and sometimes your organization or whole company misses the target, and bonus payout gets reduced. Morale is low in my team. EMC takes away passion and innovation by creating too much demand on getting your numbers to look good. They measure your time for all activities, but this is not for billable hours, just internally. Micromanagement is the name of the game and politics weighs heavy in creating extra, unneeded work and stress .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend a little more on your employees, we see little of all those billions in profit. You have a long way to go to make EMC a 'Great Place to Work'.
