Pros

At EMC, you have almost unlimited access to information which makes it very easy to incraease your level of knowledge and advance your career. A motivated person can excel in this environment and quickly develop skills that will lead to being over qualified for their current position and salary.

Cons

Work at EMC is very demanding. You must be willing to work long hours and meet rapid deadlines in this fast paced environment in order to survive and thrive. It is not the pklace fro someone who is just looking to be complacent.

Advice to Management

I would suggest they match salaries to skill sets in order to retain talented employees. Anual salary increases in Support are limited to two to four percent. Salary increases when you switch to another position within the company are often capped at ten percent. Those two things can create a situation where employees need to leave the company in order to receive fair compensation for their skills and experience.

    Pros

Job Stability - While not the sexiest field or company, the company provides an essential set of products that are highly respected by customers, prospects and competitors alike. Wall Street may have trouble valuing the company (the stock price hasn't skyrocketed in spite of the company's success) but the company is very consistent. Good place to learn - There are processes for everything, and there are some very smart people within the organization. It's a good place the learn the rigid "right" way of doing things, and a good place to get exposed to different technologies and practices. Market Leader - EMC knows how to stay on top and how to win.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic - As with many large organizations, EMC has a lot of processes and practices in place to feed the machine. At times, this gets in the way of getting things done. Everything seems to take a long time to get done, and there are layers and layers of management. It takes a while to see the impact of what you are doing. Slow to respond - See above. Not the most nimble of organizations. Hyper-competitive - This is a sales-driven organization, and Sales rules. While software is gaining more influence within the organization, hardware still carries the loudest voice. Lots of internal politics - 'Nuf said.

    Advice to Management

more open communication and a higher level of trusting the employee to do the right thing.
