I have been working at EPIQ Systems

    Pros

    1. Pay is to scale comparatively, but comes with a cost.
    2. They do try to create an atmosphere of team culture from an HR perspective, and are mostly successful at that.

    Cons

    1. The environment is predominantly reactive, even in areas it is obviously avoidable.
    2. Planning appears to be haphazard, evidenced by the continual last second (and often system-wide) requests that come through.
    3. Detailed communication between departments/teams, or from management-down or between locations/offices is often lacking and sometimes even completely devoid. This leads to much of the confusion and frustration.
    4. Accountability/ownership/process are often like the communication above ...at the worker-bee level and lower management at least. (by product of lack of planning, miscommunication and process)
    5. Planned and targeted investment in technologies and infrastructure are needed for both the short term and for growth or existing issues will persist and worsen.
    6. Blameshifting and finger pointing are common, way too common, but is primarily a byproduct of the issues above.
    7. Work/Life balance and expectation for turnaround are not particularly conducive to having a family life in more than a few cases/positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Homogenize...tear down silos, enforce processes and tools, standards and practices across all teams and locations. Also, find a way to have the various development, operations and support departments have a similar level of "skin in the game". That way all levels care about quality and consistency no matter what time it is.

Invest in infrastructure, soon, and plan for the future in a repeatable and manageable fashion.

Plan, plan, plan...and communicate (accurately) those plans to personnel with adequate time.

    Review frequently, rinse - repeat.

I have been working at EPIQ Systems

    Pros

    1. Very talented individuals with enterprise level experience. Epiq looks for the best and brightest individuals who are committed to customer satisfaction.

    2. Dedicated employees who sincerely care about the business and customer experience. These employees are constantly looking for ways to improve the infrastructure while keeping stability and security in mind.

    3. Involved management who participate in making smart business decisions for steady growth and successful new lines of business

    Cons

    1. There are extended work hours at times to meet the needs of the business which is typical for any IT position . If you're not willing to put in hours during scheduled maintenace windows or to keep system integrity in place to ensure the best customer experience, then Epiq is not for you.

    2. Not all employees are treated equally. This is because not all employees are committed to the success of the company. I have seen many dedicated individuals grow within this company and be rewarded for their hard work. I have also seen employees (although few) who wanted to "blend in or skate by" without taking initiative fail at Epiq. If you are not a motivated individual who is willing to learn new technology and participate in making the company the best in the market space, then Epiq is not for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Continue to dedicate resources in growing the company. Epiq has expanded its business offerings over the years which have proven to be successful. Epiq management prides itself on making sound decisions for future business development.

    2. Continue to listen to employees. We have many employees who like to provide feedback and find ways to be more productive at work. I think continuing with the employee surveys is a good example of the continued effort to retaining employees and improving morale. The "Epiq Events" are always a great way to interact with other teams and to build working relationships. I know there are many employees who always look forward to those events, including myself.
