I have been working at EPIQ Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great oportunities and quality co-workers. Forward thinking and a company that is poised to continue to grow and get to the top of the mountaintop. High quality Client Services and Sales professionals and management team.

Cons

Like all eDiscovery and related services companies, Epiq has the occasional issues in the operations, client services and administration areas. Some issues like invoicing don't seem to get handled quickly enough, but for the most part, problems and issues are recognized and a plan is put in place to rectify the issue quickly, effectively and for the long term.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working hard to improve our operations and delivery of our services and work product and spend the money to attract and keep high quality Client Services Professionals (PMs). A good PM is worth his/her weight in gold and should be compensated and incentivized handsomly

    Pros

The great thing about this company that lured me to them was their sheer size and presence in the eDiscovery world. There is plenty of room for growth and the pay is commensurate to the industry dependant on location. The tools that have been developed by the former companies that Epiq acquired are great; unfortunately, with the ridiculous high turnover rate, there is hardly anyone left that knows how to work them. They do, however, have good incentives for those who have stayed - they occasionally buy food for the staff - of course, with the hours that people are working and the stress placed on the understaffed office, I believe its merited.

    Cons

    Where to begin:
    - There is very little communication - at times certain policies were instilled yet they were not passed on and none of the operations technicians or PMs knew about them.
    - The lack of training and beta testing proprietary software hinders productivity so bad that deliverable have to be redone by senior staff to correct the shortcomings of the undertrained technicians. At times the manual-intensive work that would be required, due to the inefficiencies of their proprietary tool, would affect the availability of technicians to assist with other important deadlines.
    - PMs constantly having to make up excuses to the client as to why the data is not ready (wonder how much is still being comped)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't preach a high retention rate to entice interviewees, be honest. As for the good employees that are still there, treat them better and pay them what is deserved - you'll be surprised how much of a difference a good merit increase will improve morale, come on guys' its Management 101. A measly 1% will probably be given back to you along with their job - since you are so hard up (although your quarterly earnings say otherwise).

And saying things like, "the client doesn't care that we are understaffed, we need to work round the clock to have it done" when there are an overabundance of work requests coming through is not real management. Instead be a REAL manager and assist your PMs in setting reasonable expectations to the client and stop overworking people - thats why we are leaving.

    Wish you well.

I have been working at EPIQ Systems

    Pros

    - Promote from within, advance top talent
    - Operational leadership, training, and structure
    - Project Management
    - Technician level expertise
    - Camaraderie, loyalty, professionalism, teamwork
    - Fast pace, always learning and growing
    - Consistent explosive volume growth each year

Smart, hungry people will be more than satisfied with a position at Epiq. Fast career advancement is the norm and great work is quickly recognized. Epiq will stop at nothing to eventually become the leading vendor in the eDiscovery business.

    Cons

    - Work/life balance or lack thereof, but that's related to the industry
    - Executive level decision making
    - Need stronger finance team
    - Need to review pricing and standardize where possible
    - Need better R&D from product management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Epiq's people and processes are too good for money to be left on the table or for terrible pricing to be acceptable to upper management.
