Pros

Great learning opportunities to develop yourself as a professional. E&Y has most competent and bright people in the industry. They reward people for their efforts.

Cons

Demanding place to work - this is more a function of the industry than the company though.

Advice to Management

Have more direct dialogue with the staff about how they feel about their jobs.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Everyone is young, easy to get along with. Cool People, laid back environment and easy to make friends. Quick advancement - Should hit manager by 28 or 29 if you make the right moves.

    Cons

As a first year staff, you get compensated well. However, once you hit senior, you're working harder than ever, but getting severely undercompensated compared to other senior accountants.

    Advice to Management

Take more leadership/management classes!!! Alot of senior management are great technical people, but have poor people skills. That's what happens when raises are given out by your ability to crunch numbers, instead of you ability to actually be a leader. That's what differentiates Partners vs. Senior Managers.

  2. Great place to start, not so great to make a career out of.

Current Employee - Audit Staff in New York, NY
Current Employee - Audit Staff in New York, NY
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

It is a great place to start a career in finance/accounting since they invest so heavily in training and employee learning. A large part of what they do is investing in staff in order to build them up.

    Cons

Upon reaching the senior/manager/senion manager level, promotions and significant raises become increasingly difficult to attain. There is a highly structured, almost military-esque, promotion system which is nearly impossible to work your way past.

    Advice to Management

Focus on finding a few highly skilled employees and promote them at a fast rate than the norm. It would provide more motivation to staff and lower level employees to invest their time and energy into the firm rather than just viewing the first 5 years of employment as a stepping stone to something better.
