Former Employee - Audit Senior in Irvine, CA
Former Employee - Audit Senior in Irvine, CA

I worked at EY

Pros

Different clients and industries keep things interesting, depending on your team it can be fun and you'll make some good friends, 3 weeks vacation which is more than most places plus the option to buy more vacation (but remember it'll cost you)

Cons

Of course, no work life balance, blame game is everywhere all the time, unrealistic expectations and very little help as you progress in the firm. Management does not care to hear anything negative though like most corporate cultures they'll say they do. Very little support from upper management so hard to feel like a team.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Other than the obvious "hire more people", stop having such a chip on your shoulders to think that you don't have to get your hands dirty in the detail and help out with the actual onsite audit work. It is supposed to be a team after all. Just because it's the way it was done when you were a senior doesn't mean it was done right or needs to stay that way.

Good place to learn, but not well compensated for the work.

I have been working at EY

    Pros

Flexible hours, good management mostly, lots to learn and people are willing to teach you. Annual raises are usually decent.

    Cons

Sometimes have to work long hours that you aren't compensated for. Bonuses are atrocious. Promotions only happen on an annual basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote more often and give bigger bonuses and give bigger raises and give signing bonuses. There wasn't any relocation compensation either.

Great professional growth---NO work life balance

I have been working at EY

    Pros

Benefits are good. The people here are actually respectful and professionally polished. You learn a lot about professional polish. As a young professional, I was exposed to business issues/contacts that most people in private industry are not aware of. Great learning experiences. Putting this job on your resume is definitely very marketable.

    Cons

Hardly any work life balance. Because of the high turnover rates, you're expected to work at a level that is very unrealistic (both due to experience and time restrictions). Most people here work 50-70 hour work weeks every week, regardless of rank. Deadlines can be pretty unrealistic and tight. A lot of high intensity and pressure in this field.
