How anyone can stick around this company long enough to get promoted is beyond me.

I worked at EY full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Good starting salary, good pension scheme, good company benefits, occasionally taken out for lunch with clients and invited to attend the 'surf' bars (free alcohol), provided with a company phone and laptop.

Cons

Strict exam policy, long hours, tedious expense forms, inflexible holiday leave, rude managers, over inflated egos, ridiculously high expectations, little reward or recognition for good work, poor on-the-job training, lots of irrelevant emails from upper management, level of security to access systems is beyond a joke.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't treat employees like slaves, and the partners need to take more notice of how lower level staff are treated by their immediate seniors. The cultures and values of the firm should reflect the actual business and not just be for marketing/PR purposes.

I worked at EY full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

the firm provides great training, good career development, salary progress fairly quickly. hard work but well worth it. opportunities working with dynamic teams and high caliber people and clients.

    Cons

work hours are long during busy season. lack of flexibility during busy season. expectation and responsibility jump with every year of experience added. it is like a tread mill where there is no stop until you get off

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

do not out source the junior work. you need to attract the best students out of school and give them proper training via junior years
