I worked at EY

Pros

Has a good reputation and will look on good on your resume. Your experience depends on the projects you get put on, so everyone has a different experience in the firm.

Cons

There is a lot of office politics that you can't avoid even if you try. These politics cause major biases against you even if you haven't worked on a project for someone, they might already have a negative opinion of you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is not fair in reviews as they give good reviews to people they like based on "cliques" you're in.

    Pros

Good place to build some knowledge and your business network (both internally and externally)

    Cons

Lack of recognition (financial or otherwise) for achievements and/or efforts made. Lack of upward or downward transparency in the management chain and overly silo-ed divisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job of keeping compensation in-line with expected work committment. Shift the compensation scale back toward the lower ranks. Reduce the number of older existing senior managers and redistribute their salary and responsibilities to less experienced, but eager/sharp employees. Foster a culture of transparancy (on both the employee and management sides) within the firm. Spin off Advisory and related businesses as a separate entity and brand from Audit and Tax. Have the distinct Advisory business take on more Investment Banking related work.

I have been working at EY

    Pros

Definitely a good place to start a career and get your CPA. You get a lot of responsibility a few years in and get exposure to many different industries and types of accounting. Good benefits.

    Cons

No work life balance as a senior. Communication during layoffs was horrible and caused rumors to spread. Salaries used to be better but were frozen in 2009.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need more communication to the lower levels. Need honesty about layoffs and future plans.
