I worked at EYP full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Pay isn't bad. There are opportunities for travel and internal training. Firm does interesting work in Higher Ed and Energy sectors.

Cons

Firm is poorly organized internally with made up positions to accommodate those who have been loyal and long-employed. Makes advancement opportunities unclear, at best, and at worst, limited to but a few.

Lots of good ideas at the top, but confusion in the execution.

I have been working at EYP full-time

    Pros

Architecture staff are truly passionate about what they work on. Plans are to use cutting edge technology and resources to help productivity and keep current with competitors. HR staff is very good.

    Cons

Engineers take a backseat to the architecture community (Big A, Little E). This varies depending on which office you land in, as there are many. Upper management doesnt seem to understand how things work "in the trenches". Too much focus on marketing and financial performance, not enough on a quality product. Lack of standards for drafting and design.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the quality of the products you provide, not the dollars you can create. A quality product will provide its own financial return. If you just try to make money, you lose sight of the relationship you want to build.

    I worked at EYP

    Pros

Seems to have survived the downtown without major financial issues- which speaks to the health of the firm as a whole

    Cons

Pay is so-so for technical staff. They will try to get off with paying you as less as possible if you do not fight for it. They will tout great benefits, but they add up to little in the end. The people who earn the most are the marketing folks, who earn more than twice the hourly amount paid to the technical staff on an average

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Think about revising pay scales
