I have been working at EarthLink full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Transition is gaining traction, investments in new cloud locations, getting rid of old telco dinosaurs, new talent in IT product management, adding highly skilled sales engineers and infrastructure engineers

Cons

Legacy telco execs remain, some have adapted to new IT delivery models, others continue to be a problem. Communication across business units still problematic. Internal political conflicts abound. At least the old telco personnel appear to be losing that battle.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Effective project management will make or break this transition. The PM organization is the only unit capable of bridging the gaps across the company. Stay the course, the building blocks are there. Promote from within, there's lots of new talent. Get rid of the remaining VP's who think delivering a project in 8 months is a success. In The cloud business, that delivery timeframe will put you 4 months behind everyone else. Remaining execs, get out of your offices and walk the floors. Interact with your employees. You may learn something. If you choose to stay in your office all day, spend the time polishing your résumé, your days are numbered.

I worked at EarthLink full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

EathLink's name as a dial up provider. Some brand recognition. It's probably a great 1st place for someone just out of high school or college.

They have a huge HR Department.

    Cons

Read the other posts. A very disgruntle workforce with low morale. The strategic direction from top does not align with the resources and skill set of the employees. They are trying to play in space where they don't belong.
