Former Employee - Manager Doing Director-level Work, Without Recognition Or Title in Rochester, NY

I worked at Eastman Kodak full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Kodak was once a great brand, and its name and products resonated with business decision-makers and consumers. It was the Apple of its day. It knew how to superbly market products of average quality.

Cons

The company lost its way, trying to do digital while clinging to the film business. It didn't have the money to advertise or commercialize new products. It had chief marketing executives with relentless egos and no judgment. And the leadership -- from the board of directors to the CEO -- made horrifically bad decisions, then executed them poorly, resulting in late-to-market products with high failure rates. The Kodak Moment became an epitaph.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The board of directors should be sanctioned by the SEC and dismissed, and barred from ever serving in a director-level capacity at any business bigger than an ice cream stand. A new board that actually understands how to commercialize and market digital printing and other technologies should be installed. I don't expect the current CEO to remain very long, when and if Kodak exits bankruptcy. They might try a female CEO, because all the testosterone-fueled decisions have ruined the company.

I worked at Eastman Kodak full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Great training
Opportunities to move laterally to gain experience in a variety of departments
Equipment business has some GREAT products. These can make Kodak thrive into the future.
Good people who work hard and genuinely care about the success of the company.

    Cons

Sexism in film manufacturing is alive and kicking.
Too many layers of management for the size of the compnay.. need to shed some managers to reduce cost structure rather than the bottom where they are below critical mass in many areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look to your left and to your right in the next meeting. One of those people must go... you are far too top heavy to survive in an equipment business.
