EchoStar Employee Review
EchoStar – “Great Opportunities, Management Challenges”
1 of 1 people found this helpfulPros
Echostar is an excellent company for those who have skills or want to develop skills in Linux. Almost all development is done in Linux for Linux embedded systems. Those wishing to learn new areas (drivers, gui, satellite, cable) are generally allowed to do so.
Cons
Vacation is a bit scant. Only two weeks for the first few years, then three thereafter. Benefits are only mediocre, adequate, but mediocre. I wish that stricter processes were followed to keep us from repeating the same mistakes year after year, project after project.
Advice to Senior Management
I would advise senior management to stop encouraging 11th hour heroics to get releases out (even though it is done unintentionally), and instead focus on rewarding lasting value brought on by proper engineering practices, designs and processes.

I totally agree with this, this has become a pattern. Engineers get rushed to get stuff done within impossible deadlines, managers push code through without proper review and errors creep in ... then fixing the bugs takes longer than it took to get the original feature in!
