I have been working at EchoStar

Pros

The location is pretty good, they give a discount on TV service, and the people are good to work with. If you like technology then you can get some interesting projects, and learn from people who know more than you. All in all not a bad first company experience, but wouldn't want to stay for ever.

Cons

The health benefits are a joke, the salaries are generally below average, and the company is cheap in every aspect. The company direction is confusing due to the recent split but continued common leadership.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better direction, better pay, better benefits, improve morale, allow the engineers to create better products.

I have been working at EchoStar

    Pros

The company does not lay people off. Manning is kept low in all departments which makes for decent job security. Free service (lowest grade package) help cut down on the monthly bills.

    Cons

Pay is below industry standards, benefits are poor. Top-down management leaves front line supervisors waiting for someone else to make a decision. Most of the work is done by a few select employees which allows many to collect a paycheck by waiting for something to go wrong. Company is willing to hold off paying it's suppliers till the last minute, even to the point of extending billing terms.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider paying your top employees better and allow your front line supervisors to make decisions.

Average company offering little in the way of progression, and average compensation.

I have been working at EchoStar full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Easy going
    In a nice rural environment
Reasonable when it comes to needing personal time or short notice holidays
    Not pressured

    Cons

    No challenge
Salary below par for industry average
    No progression opportunities
Lack of investment in staff, left alone to own devices for months on end
Dont follow best practices and projects suffer as a result, not organised.
So called flexitime not flexible at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in more experienced staff in order that the others can learn more
Offer more variety to staff to allow them to develop and be happier
