Current Employee - Territory Manager in New York, NY
Current Employee - Territory Manager in New York, NY

I have been working at Ecolab

Pros

You get what you put in, decent salary and commissions.
A high paced sales force with monthly if not weekly sales goals.

Cons

Company seems to be more worried about the stock price and or paying its executives.
The ground troops that are the life blood of the company seem to be neglected.
Cutting back payment packages that seem to not make sense.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat all employees with fairness, stop scaling back compensation packages.

I have been working at Ecolab

    Pros

Worked with some great, hard working people that don't get enough praise and posiitve reinforcement.

    Cons

R&D management is an extreme mess. They are power driven, close minded, selfish, half-minded people who don't care about any of their people. A 2 year old could run this division better than they can. Greedy sons of b's who don't deserve the people who work so hard for them. They are horrible managers. The word leader isn't in their vocabulary and never will be. They are passionate about being jerks at anyones expense. Shame on you!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix your management and open your eyes. People need to care about their employees in order for their work and team to be successful. This is 101 Leadership skills which was obviously overlooked. Poor horrible choices in your recent management hires...you should be ashamed....

Former Employee - Route Sales Manager in DFW, TX
Former Employee - Route Sales Manager in DFW, TX

    I worked at Ecolab

    Pros

Have company vehicle and gas card. Pay not bad until yearly remapping of territories

    Cons

Ridiculous workload placed on Route Managers. If you want any sort of a normal life with a family, do not hire on at Ecolab as a Route Manager. Company is driven by greed and they will walk all over you at every juncture. Pay structure and compensation plan very secretive. Good luck getting any sort of a straight answer from financial analysis and planning or even from your own manager regarding miscellaneous unexplained deductions from your paycheck. There is so much wrong about how this company treats the route manger in institutional sales. Sales in the route and territories is where Ecolab gets the majority of their revenue. Yet yearly, Ecolab redistricts/remaps in order to keep your pay at a certain level. Route managers will never be compensated for all of the work that they do. Route managers have to find someone to cover their own territory for vacation time taken even though there are at least 3 levels of management in a given local area branch. Many of the supervisors/managers were promoted not based on merit, but through the good ole boy network. Most supervisors and managers do not have an education beyond that of a high school diploma or maybe some college. There is a huge amount of dead weight in the area management and support centers. I would not wish this job on an enemy unless you are the sort of person who likes to be torn down and walked over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop taking advantage of people. Start recognizing and compensating the revenue makers out in the field. Get rid of all of that dead weight in lower to middle management. Care about the overall health and wealth of all your employees.
