Pros

Serve growing markets & categories and have great business model for each industry served. Aggressive growth focused organization with excellent career potential if you are willing to work both smart and very hard. Total comp potential above average if you can get LTI. Winning leadership team with excellent financial position and stock performance to propel the company forward and beat competition. Customer centric philosophy with excellent customer service and leading technology/systems.

Cons

Work/life balance gets lip-service - make no mistake there is expectation for 60+ hour weeks to advance or even keep your job. Sales obsessed organization that plays favorites and can remind you of a high school popularity contest to be recognized for upward mobility. Top executives have a zealous religious fervor to beat the S&P 500 and nothing (no matter how reasonable) will get in the way of making quarterly and annual business targets. Some very passive/aggressive, wicked execs thrive in midst of great overall leadership team - beware of them. Rapid growth and acquisitions have leadership team stretched very thin and seems to be increasing the heartless pursuit of the financials at the expense of longer-term development of the overall team and organization.

Advice to Management

If you continue to layoff good people and overwork your field sales, customer service and operational teams while consistently reporting record earnings and ever fatter stock comp to executives - Ecolab (and Nalco which was recently acquired) will lose the customer-centric passion and spirit that made it great. Company used to be more like a family and be there for people - now the top leadership views employees no different than a pro sports team that will do anything to win - go back to your more family oriented roots that led to the passion for taking care of customers and team that was core of Ecolab's original success.

    Pros

Industry leaders, smart people, many international locations, great travel, Good upward mobility. The company is on the cutting edge of technology with very not much competition. Nalco merger was the best thing they did in the last 15 years.

    Cons

Very top heavy, many VPs and Directors, average compensation and benefits, political environment, little autonomy, HQd in St. Paul, Minnesota.

    Advice to Management

Need to practice what you preach. Flatten the organization, provide more autonomy and improve benefits

    Pros

Service van, tools gas, boot allowance, uniform, company controlled pension, medical is ok but not great

    Cons

Was great for 15yrs.then new management took over,The upper managers dont know your name or care about you or your life, Ecolab layed us all off, and the Sales people have to wire and plumb the dish machines, many who dont know what a screwdriver is. If you ,are a female watch out, Its the good old boys,Many long hours, not much recognition if your not a sales person, but sales people work 80 hours a week, can only move up if you Drink the Kool AID, one boss couldnt read and has been moved up all threw his career, no more service man positon, just sales/route position, hard to sell to mom and pop, at high prices but if you can they love you, All for Ecolab, Ecolab for ALL.

    Advice to Management

Hire more WOMEN and there are not to many AFRICAN AMERICAN sales people working for you, The share holders are HAPPY but THE TMs who are THE BACKBONE of Ecolab are not.
