I have been working at Ecolab full-time (more than 8 years)

Pros

Benefits are decent and for the most part the staff gets along. Close to home and relatively independent work as long as one does not go against the procedures.

Cons

No career advancement opportunities. Very little communication is an ongoing issue, but there is plenty of critism is passed around.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your staff with respect. Watch the favoritism and staff is not treated the same.

I worked at Ecolab as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Work and home life balance is great, good benefits.

    Cons

Executives in IT do not see the bigger picture in scaling the environment for the future. Bureaucracy gets in the way of building Datacenters and applications that are highly available and to also prevent catastrophic system failures in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT Executives need to push for innovation and drive technology to run a more efficient operation. You cannot put leaders in place that do not understand all the moving parts to make a efficient Enterprise operation. Directors and Managers that have been at Ecolab for decades have not kept pace in technology. You also need to spend money on solutions to better the operations and not just look at more efficiency in the department, you will burn out the staff. If managers are not driving the team and challenging them to excel, than mediocrity will prevail.

    Pros

    Company Van, Stock purchase plan

    Cons

No pay weekend work. Work until 5 and go home to computer work. Commish based salary but will send to other areas to do service and tell you your small salary covers that. 80% service work but want to pay you only for sales work. Customers go past 90 days late and they take commissions back but you still have to the leg work collecting or pulling equipment for FREE. Have to rely on food reps to sell products and have no control of ordering for that part of business but that affects you're budget goals. Management has no problem lying to team. Have had a few managers since I took job and both have been divorced, I bet due to the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are not tools in the Ecolab shed. We are people with families.
