I have been working at Economist Intelligence Unit part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

A great place to pick up lots of analytical and writing skills early in your career and to work with mostly really lovely and interesting pople

    Cons

Very poor salary and salary prospects--they pay all but the most senior employees like journalists but expect them to have the kind of skills that would get them a job either in a major financial institution or in an international institution.
Too flat hierarchy at the bottom so career progression prospects poor but way too many layers and different management titles at the top

    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Economist Intelligence Unit full-time

    Pros

    Strong brand
    Employees are bright young things
    Free magazines

    Cons

As knowledge is your product, tell me, where is the knowledge management?
Teams are isolated fiefdoms at war with each other
Some employees are worked to death, others leave at 5pm on the dot (intelligence sweatshop)
    Online portal a graveyard
Where are the women in senior management?
HR alternates between being aggressive and indifferent
    No opportunities for promotion available

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote more women into senior management - it's not inspiring working for a company that doesn't make every effort to do this. Also why not reinvigorate the knowledge cafes or other KM initiatives to activate knowledge sharing? Someone with a global view is needed to fit some pieces of the puzzle as there's an incomplete picture at the moment.
