Pros

--Smartest, most dedicated people in the industry who are in PR for the right reasons and genuninely believe in the tenets convening transparent, honest debate and engagement to drive client agenda forward.
--Private firm with leadership committed to truly great work, not just great quarterly margins.

Cons

--For some, a culture where doing average or status quo work is seen as failure is not for them.
--Executives are not allowed to rest on laurels and exalted hierarchy is not tolerated. Execs are all required to be hands-on and 'doing' the work, not directly.
--I see these as HUGE positives, but I've had colleagues, new hires and recruits say that these are cons. Those folks tend to not last long.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up what you're doing and don't let success go to your head. Stay hungry, focused on doing the BEST work in the industry and we'll continue to be the biggest. Dan Edelman said it first, but it's more true every day the bigger and better we get. Easier to say when you were challenging the 'big' guys.

Great place to work, keep your eyes open for political pitfalls

    Pros

entrepreneurial environment; fast-paced; ability work with the biggest, best clients in your field with some of the smartest people in the industry

    Cons

A driven staff can lead to some uncomfortable political situations. I wouldn't go as far as to say cut-throat, but close. Pets of group leadership tend to get better account choices, more opportunities for new business and career growth and faster promotions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a few accounts in my department (and probably in all of them) that have a truly awful reputation. It might be time to have a look at why no one wants to work on those teams and make some changes.

  2.

A great global agency to work for with reasonable hours for PR, but expect the other pros and cons of any large agency.

    Pros

Reputation of agency, opportunity to work on well-known clients with large budgets, knowledge sharing within and between offices, interesting intellectual property, reasonable hours and salary in comparison to other large agencies, great benefits, some of your coworkers will be friendly and very smart, and some of your managers will be great leaders and truely advocate for you

    Cons

A lot of politics, hierarchical, coworkers can be extremely competitive, little flexibility in what accounts and tactics you get to work on (even when you have put in your time)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent, remember to work with your junior staff so they understand how their day-to-day work is impacting a larger strategic initiative
