Current Employee - Senior Account Executive

Pros

Talented, dedicated team members
Engaging clients and work
Opportunity to travel domestically and possibly internationally based on clients
Flexible work schedule

Cons

Long work hours
Differences in management and advancement ability among offices in the network
Lacking technology for mid-level managers
Constant battle to stand out from the clutter

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior managers need to see the needs of the mid-level managers more; focus is place to heavily on the junior support staff and not those who are second in command (a lot of the time) on the business. Additionally, those that have been with the company more than five years need to be recognized and appreciated.

    Pros

Great culture, solid leadership, and good position as a market leader in the Digital Marketing space. Edelman is a more stable, mature agency than many of the other Digital agencies. Company has great brand recognition among enterprise clients, so it's not hard to get in the door with new target clients. The company is also global, and encourages employees to move between markets (or even specialties) as their personal life goals shift.

    Cons

Conflict arises as the non-Digital side of the business becomes increasingly threatened by the Digital. Edelman is, at its core, a PR company, and while clients demand Digital as part of any enterprise-level solution, the PR side tends to want to pump non-Digital into the budget to stay alive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in "productizing" some of the mid- and entry-level Digital services, so that the PR staff can better qualify, position & sell them. This will also help train up entry-level Digital staff to a consistent, high standard.

    Pros

exciting client projects, positive brand image, excellent training

    Cons

long hours, weak middle managers, inconsistent performance assessment (the quality of the people of the same level varies so much, i.e. some weak performers can get promoted quickly if they are close with their managers)
