Pros

The abundance of career opportunities here at Edelman is endless. The company is structured for each employee to ultimately determine their own career path based upon their interests. Additionally, as the top pr firm in the world Edelman attracts top tier talent and works with some of the largest brands in the world. Being with such a large company also allows you a global network of resources to assist you in your day-to-day needs and the opportunity to work with other Edelman offices across the world.

Cons

Part of this is just the nature of the industry, but it is very challenging to maintain a work/life balance at times. If you are only open to a 9-5 Monday-Friday gig, this industry and company is probably not the best fit for you. That said, Edelman is great about holidays and PTOs.

Smart people, receptive senior management and limitless opportunities, but the experience is what you make of it.

    Pros

Amazing talent across the network (and knowledge sharing has become a much higher priority in recent months.) Edelman knows good people when they see them and do their best to retain them, whether it's through extended sick leave when a family is ill or footing the bill for an expensive conference. On the west coast (potentially elsewhere), they put a big emphasis on ongoing education, as well as getting to know/like your colleagues on a personal level, with bi-annual retreats. Depending on your team and manager, there is a LOT of room for professional growth and junior level team members are often given an unusual amount of responsibility based on good performance.

In order to succeed at Edelman, you have to ask for what you want. As long as you make a case for your desires (especially concerning career path) and speak up early and often, you're generally rewarded.

    Cons

At times, very long hours. Work/life balance isn't necessarily a myth, but it can be difficult. The salary also seems to be lower than industry standard.

Your experience greatly depends on your team and manager. If you don't secure advocates for yourself and learn how to navigate the process/politics, it's very possible that you'll get overlooked for promotions, raises, etc.

    Advice to Management

Be more proactive with comp days, spot bonuses, and general recognition for a job well done. We love our jobs and don't mind working hard to deliver spectacular client service, but a more consistent reward system (or even a simple 'thank you' email) would go a long way in increasing overall job satisfaction.

    Pros

It's the pre-eminent thought leader in its industry. It is an innovative, flexible and generous agency. Its relatively flattened hierarchy promotes communication and creativity from all levels.

    Cons

I'm seriously having trouble coming up with something general and accurate. I mean, it's an intense job -- it's bound to take up considerable hours of the day, to involve periods of intense effort that do not result in a fruitful outcome, to butting heads with forceful, opinionated colleagues, etc. That would be the same at any company where growth and passion are integral components.

    Advice to Management

I would love to have its client list in the energy sector shorn of all fossil fuel-related companies, much as it eschews doing work on behalf of tobacco product companies.
