I worked at Edinburgh Napier University

    Pros

Lovely location , poor management allowed me independence and autonomy - by default !!
Encouragement to bring in income from external sources.

    Cons

Emphasis on glowing P.R. to the external community, despite poor academic standards expected of students - staff have encountered difficulty in allowing student failure rates to fall below levels acceptable to Management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with academic staff. Don't keep siding with administrators and ignoring overload of student contact hours required by teaching timetables , at the same time pushing staff to produce "research" - of a quality very suspect....

I worked at Edinburgh Napier University as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

The department in which I worked had an excellent atmosphere, and my supervisor would bend over backwards to try and keep an employee that he considered valuable.

    Cons

As with most companies these days, the University has a limited budget, which has lead to a decrease in the number of permanent contracts being awarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider rewarding some of the more productive members of staff with permanent contracts as I'm sure stringing them along with bits and pieces of temporary contracts will only keep them for so long.
