I have been working at Education Management Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

The idea and concept of the schools started out fantastic but got lost when they sold out to Gold Man and Sac's. The Instructors really do care about their students and want them to exceed in all that they do. However the quality of staff has truely gone down hill.

Cons

It's impossible to move up they just keep blaming it on the goverment saying that salary increases are no longer allowed even if you change job titles and requirements completely. Your pay stays the same so demand high right off the bat!!!! Almost feels like you are waving candy infront of a little kid sure it looks and sounds amazing but nothing as it's promised.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a step back and look at the years where things were going well for the company. It's time to focus on the QUALITY of education again and not the warm bodies that can fill a classroom. We need quality teachers to teach quality students.

    Pros

Wonderful people to work with. You talk to many different people every day. Good benefits.
You can also get a free education.

    Cons

Little chance of advancement, too much micromanagement, employees can feel unappreciated. Little chance for a raise. Most employees are not happy with their jobs here . The lay offs have been heavy and the rules change every day. They expect more and more out of the workers and give little in return. Employees are not encouraged to give input.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micromanagement, create a pay incentive plan to motivate employees. There's lots of great talent here, incourage more interaction between employees and upper management. Listen to our thoughts. Stop making rules that make employees feel belittled. Give workers better work life balance.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Young, fun culture for people in their 20s and 30s.

    Cons

Upper management refuses to hold mid-level management accountable for any amount of production. They all seem to be blind on purpose. Almost like a cult. It is as if they can do no wrong, which is a joke.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your subordinates are smarter than you. Stop acting like your title means something. You're still all idiots. You fire all the people that figure out what you are doing there, and keep everybody you can control. No room for new ideas that would work there. Way to run your company into the ground. You should fire yourselves.
