Frustrating, but it pays the bills.

Pros

Great work/life balance mindset. Non-salary benefits are probably better than most. The pay is respectable for the locale and the industry in general seems to be doing well despite the economy.

Cons

Ineptitude is often overlooked and favoritism by management abounds. Senior management touts platitutes and ideals, but front-line managers rarely follow through. While pay is good for this location, positions are tied to pay bands/ranges. Unfortunately, some mid-level managers thought it a clever cost-saving practice to categorize "down" some roles into positions with lower pay bands. As a result, some workers who are performing the same tasks as their east coast counterparts may be paid significantly less at this location.

Advice to Management

Do a better job of recognizing and developing talent, instead of promoting the "survivors." Requiring that entry- and mid-level management candidates have a legitimate sense of business acumen would do wonders for the company.

    Pros

Other testing supervisors were, for the most part, a very nice group of smart people. Most were high school or community college professors

    Cons

Full-time ETS supervisors did not seem to be knowledgable about process. Pay for online scoring kept dropping

    Advice to Management

Listen to consultants and adjust work load accordingly.

    Pros

The best reason to work for ETS online is the flexibility in selecting your hours, and the fact that the work can be done at home through the internet.

    Cons

There are only two drawbacks with this position: (1) there isn't consistency in the amount of hours worked because the job is on an as-needed-basis, and (2) management is nearly impossible to reach.

    Advice to Management

The work is very well set up, but there needs to be more (some!) access to management; the cloak-and-dagger set up just to reach someone from human resources is ridiculous.
