I have been working at Elastic Path Software full-time (More than a year)

Pros

The entire technical team at this company is extremely talented: smart, knowledgeable, young, and driven/motivated. If you love the craft of agile software development you will love it here. There is a real "do it right the first time, no shortcuts" mentality. Great place to learn.

Cons

Relatively low pay compared to many other software developer opportunities in Vancouver considering the high expectations. Depending on the team you're in, hours may not be very flexible and overtime is expected.

Get your work experience then move on... there will always be fresh meat for the grinder.

I worked at Elastic Path Software full-time

    Pros

Startup feel... if that's what you are into. Hires a lot of great people. Extremely dynamic workplace. A good place to gain experience, and to try on different positions/roles. Also, a good place to make contacts in the industry; within a couple of years, close to half of the people you first worked with will now be at various different companies around town.

    Cons

No work-life balance. Lots of travel (for certain positions), with no travel notice (ok, maybe a day or two)... the company owns you. They will call you a 'resource' and will treat you as such. You will always be working for impatient clients that will want the world and want it now and a company that will never push back and set expectations correctly (or worse, have EP as your client in product dev), so a constant cycle of overtime and fire-fighting (running around like chickens with their heads cut off) as deadlines approach. Constant shifting of teams and 'resources', so you'd better like change. Drink beer from their tap, but don't drink the kool-aide, this is at best a mediocre company that's just pretending to be the next best thing since sliced bread... something which they are clearly not.

    Advice to Management

Learn, grow up and listen to people more qualified/experienced than you. It's not helpful to keep changing company direction every few months (frequently back to what it was before). Own up to your mistakes and don't try to 'spin' everything... respect your employees (by being honest) if you want their respect.

Has potential. But founders have no experience to get to the next level

    Pros

People try hard and care. Lots of free booze. Know how to have fun. Have finally hired some professional executives lately, but most left. Have 2 good guys remaining with experience who know what they are doing. That's a plus. Solid HR in place.

    Cons

Founders, founders, founders. Lots of floundering. Over hiring -> 3 months later -> over firing. Like manic depression syndrome. Founders lack experience to run a 10-yr old company that needs to be taken to the next level. keg experience. May want to think about stepping aside. Also seems that they don't always walk the talk when it comes to spending. They cut budgets, but impression is that they sure do spend a lot on themselves.

    Advice to Management

Step aside and let some professionals run the outfit. You'll make more money and flounder less.
