Fun and rewarding place to work, but technical leadership led to project difficulties

    Pros

The compensation packages at EA are great for the industry and even good for programmers in general. The culture at the EA Chicago studio was phenomenal.

    Cons

Poor technical leadership led to projects not turning out as well as they could. Corporate HQ closed the EA Chicago studio much too prematurely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Electronic Arts has a huge amount of talent working for it, but it still struggles at making well done and innovative games. I think this has to be a problem with the corporate leadership.

Studio based. You are at the mercy of management when it comes choice of work.

    Pros

Games. Even though, you are the managements mercy, there are so many ways to keep you interested as there are so many interesting things to do. If you make it first couple of years/projects you will have time of your life compared to IT industry. Technology sharing between products is really awesome, people love sharing their stuff.

    Cons

Hard long work hours during tail end of cycle(6-8 months) and sometimes require sacrificing personal time to get the game out of the door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow the company from within. Stop making drastic strategic changes so often, it just makes the company dysfunctional. Don't pick winners and losers by focusing marketing budgets on single season or products that just de-motivates other teams.
