Don't judge a book by its cover

Senior Sales Representative (Former Employee)
Portland, OR

ProsThey have excellent benefits and perks. The company is generally a very nuturing environment for employees. They claim to promote a healthy work/life balance. This is refreshing and is being promoted at the highest levels of the organization.

ConsThe pay is a little behind as far as industry standards go. They also have a slow promotional structure that can be somewhat convoluted and subjective. This can make it very hard to advance and show improvement or leadership for pay increases. They are also moving to a "report card" style system for bonus pay outs to the sales force that relies on feedback from customers to determine percentage of bonus paid to the field reps. Considering the number of pharma reps running around out there, this has caused a great deal of concern for the reps. The doctors surveyed and all the data is gathered and interpreted confidentially by the company with no recourse allowed to the employees whose pay is effected by these reports. You could have stellar numbers but if the doctors surveyed don't remember you by name and have a positive impression, you could miss out on a big chunk of money that you have worked very hard to get.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut in the work to develop your employees. Be leaders by leading and back up what you say. Don't make promises and then not follow through, or even worse, do the exact opposite. The employees take note and do not like empty rhetoric.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
