Elizabeth is a "Mom and Pop" hospice trying to grow up but doesn't have the leadership necessary to make the transition

I have been working at Elizabeth Hospice

Pros

There are well meaning leaders in place who really care about the organization.
Field clinicians are excellent and give compassionate, expert care.

Cons

The same leaders who are "well meaning" simply don't have the skills to lead this organization past the 50-100 census hospice it was for so many years

Advice to ManagementAdvice

It seems like HR drove the decision making in the two recent RIFs - to ensure that no favoritism was a part of the decision making. Unfortunately, clinical needs took second place in the decision making causing increased stress on staff left behind and subsequent reduction in effectiveness of care for patients

I have been working at Elizabeth Hospice as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Everyone I've met at the Center for Compassionate Care of the Elizabeth Hospice has been incredibly supportive!
    - Flexible work schedule.
    - Lots of clients.
    - It's truly rewarding to work with this client population.
    - Office rooms are comfortable and contain everything an intern needs.
    - Allscripts and Amplicare software allows for documentation on computers - no paper charting!

    Cons

    - Staff members outside of the Center for Compassionate Care of the Elizabeth Hospice don't always seem to understand and/or appreciate what interns do, but I think this is mainly due to staff members not being made aware of the vital role we play within the organization.
    - The Elizabeth Hospice isn't able to offer paid internships; however, interns do receive gas reimbursement at the federal rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spread the word about interns, and make a point of recognizing them in the same way that you already recognize volunteers!
