I have been working at Ellucian full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Flexible schedule Advancement opportunities Improved leadership Transparency Exciting new products and services beginning to hit market

Cons

Low Salaries compared to market Still adjusting to most recent merger Large number of employees with negative attitudes Eroding benefits HR matters take for forever

Advice to Management

Positive Attitude can be infectious. Find a way to reinvigorate employees that isn't cheesy popcorn machines and things of this nature look like frivolous spending. Contests and even small rewards for a job well done can go a long way. Remove the culture of fearing the ominous "management"

I worked at Ellucian full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits and pay are OK. Middle managers care about their staff. Ability to work remotely.

    Cons

Datatel was a great company to work for. Before the first buyout it was rated as one of the 50 best companies to work for in the DC area. After it went from a privately-owned company to being bought out by two different investment companies, it went from being employee centric to all about the bottom line. The merger with Sungard Higher Ed only made it worse. The current environment is all about getting as much work done with as few employees as possible. Everyone worries if they're next in the next round of layoffs. This has left overworked employees with low morale. Great employees are leaving as fast as they can find another job.

    Advice to Management

Get back to the Datatel basics, and walk the walk, don't just talk the talk. Take some plays from Russ Griffith's playbook. Remember when "employees are our biggest asset" meant something and not something that's spouted by the executives.

I have been working at Ellucian full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work from home, management has no clue what you do so they leave you alone.

    Cons

Terrible management. Lack of career. Fear of not doing who to trust. Terrible morale. Leadership stinks.

    Advice to Management

Need to fire John Speers, All of Professional services VP's and all middle management. If the only way you can budget is to lay off employees every 3 month...then we need new management. SunGard was a top rate company....Datatel was 3rd at best...together one lousy company...If you are not drinking the Kool-Aid...you will find yourself on the next rif list...
