Great people
Innovative company
Industry leading best practices
Outstanding learning opportunities
Fun corporate culture
Competitive yet effective working environment
Lots of opportunity for growth

Cons

High expectations of success
Strong personalities which occasionally clash
Lots of responsibility
Multiple office locations requiring monthly travel
It is not a 9-5 job - no one goes home until the day's work is done.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be competitive against Marketo. Make necessary changes to head count and budget to ensure there are enough Eloqua troops on the ground - especially in marketing - to outmatch Marketo's efforts.
Also, continue to enable and empower brand advocates. They are the key to continued success and to maintaining Eloqua's position as an industry leader.

    Pros

    They provide great learning opportunities to become an expert in Marketing Automation. A great chance to network with industry experts and subject matter experts.

    Cons

    Too much management shuffling and bad decisions made during a key growth phase around new hires. There was a phase where the sales team grew too fast and then 50% of the sales team was fired, and 25% across all other depts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make better hiring decisions. Provide better opportunities for your employees (particularly in services) if you don't want to keep losing great people to Eloqua partners.

    I worked at Eloqua

    Pros

    Exciting start-up environment, well funded through venture capitalists. Good product, first to market in their space. Employees all seem equally dedicated to ensuring the success of the company and the product. Most of the founders are still on board in some capacity.

    Cons

    Not all managers are as effective at people management - some are strong, others less so. For non-Toronto based or Vienna (VIrginia) based employees the policy is work-from-home. The product is in a niche-market, which is not mature yet, and though market-leading, many competitors are entering the market with (lesser) tools for a much lower price point, which decreases the opportunity size.

    Ensure training programs are in place and signed off on my management and employees.
