Current Employee - Editorial Assistant in London, England (UK)

I have been working at Elsevier full-time for more than a year

Pros

Lovely place to work with interesting and challenging projects

Cons

Pay is very low, need to make more opportunities available to those who are capable not just to those employees who happen to have been there the longest. You have to fight to get good projects to work on and there not enough training available for development.

HR are pretty much non-existent. They welcome you on your first day and you won't see them again. Organization mapping is confusing - it'd be better to have a manager who is familiar with the work you do and can actually provide a step-up.

30% profit margin is what the the company is about. NOT the development of science.
