I worked at Emerson

Pros

Low risk environment; also translates into low innovation quotient.

Cons

You get promoted (and get anything beyond inflation adjustment) mostly by being there long enough. Outside and new blood only comes in when an acquisition occurs.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

As the world gets flatter, Emerson will be better off with more performance based compensation. The current stats (especially at divisions) will show you an almost 1-1 correlation of compensation to seniority. I also belive that for long Emerson traded stability for compensation - the mid-management is begining to fill up with mediocrity. This has served the operational philosophy well for decades but may prove costly over the next few.

I have been working at Emerson

    Pros

All the tools you need to succeed are provided for you. Even though training in may take a long time, management sticks with you and gives feedback a long the way.

    Cons

It is a large company. It can take awhile to get to know even the immediate people you are working with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I am not sure how management gets anything done with 30-35 hours of meetings per week. They seem as though they could benefit with more time to actually get things done.

    Pros

If you have nowhere else you can draw a paycheck, work at Emerson.

    Cons

    My manager was totally incompetent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit, and go back to school to learn the art of how to treat employees.
