I have been working at Emory University

Pros

Great community, benefits and students!

Cons

You have to know someone in order to progress professionally. Positions are filled without being announced to employees. Good old boy/girl network in the extreme.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look outside the Emory community for leadership and new ideas. Do not keep shuffling the same leadership team, within the different schools, around. Experience is great but thinking is not strategic and too insular.

    Pros

Interesting research and feeling like you are contributing to society.

    Cons

Emory is still very much an "old boys' club" with completely different benefits and status for non-professor professionals. Low pay, extremely political and not a good place for working mothers. Emory offers no paid leave for regular employees. You can apply for short term disability but if you have any underlying medical conditions you will be turned down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work harder to motivate and retain promising talent. Offer alums the tuition discount towards student loans taken to attend Emory. Fire EVERYONE in Human Resources.

    I worked at Emory University

    Pros

cooworkers are very friendly. Nearly no overtime. excellent work-life balance.

    Cons

Not very good for technical grow since the group is small and their knowledge level is limited. There's almost no processes either. People are dedicated. However, they are more skilled craftmen other than well organized efficient team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management team is pretty good. There's nothing worse than any other university. Actually, it should be among the best university work environments.
