Pros

I am lucky to live nearby. Compensation is pretty good and the faculty/staff (for the most part) are good to work with.

Cons

Traffic and the cost of parking. The shuttle services could certainly be improved. It is a very large organization, very easy to get lost and unsure of how you fit in. Why is coffee so expensive? Logic is not something usually practiced here.

Advice to Management

Find a better way to communicate and promote better 2-way communications. Training and growth opportunities could be better. We are experiencing a shift to a more "corporate" organization, this is difficult for many to take.

    Pros

Great benefits. A lot of variety.

    Cons

Type A environment. Working 12 hours a day is expected. Long work hours are not rewarded. No merit increases for top performance. First place I've ever worked and not received a raise for outstanding job performance. Management is allowed to bully employees with no ramifications.

    Advice to Management

More opportunities for communication. Supervisors should be held accountable. Managers need more coaching on how to supervise.

  2. Great place to work, as long as you don't work for the Mathematics and Computer Science department.

    Pros

Emory is a large employer, and it's a very exciting place to be. Most of the departments (other than Math/CS) are managed by people who genuinely care about the educational mission.

    Cons

The Math and Computer Science department is managed by people who are both incompetent and discriminatory regarding health issues. They outright refused to comply with or even acknowledge the medical conditions of employees, and often seemed to act with a malice towards employees that was sadly reminiscent of scenes in Office Space. Note that the scores here reflect this department; other departments likely deserve higher scores, but the university deserves blame for supporting this behavior.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that department managers have training in the Americans with Disabilities Act, and that they're brought up to speed on modern technology.
