Pros

Compensation was generous, reviews were fair, HR was gerenally responsive to employee complaints, promotions are frequent. Overall, company has a great culture and a comfortable yet challenging environment. The workforce tends to be younger (lots of 20 and 30 somethings moving into the San Diego area) and it is a great place to work from a social standpoint.

Cons

Occassional poor hiring and firing decisions are made with respect to management. Health insurance benefits are less than desirable and decrease further every couple of years.

Advice to Management

Provide stock or equivalent benefits to a broader group of employees.

    Pros

Some very high quality people work at Encore at all levels. Brandon, Jim and Manu are a great management team. This will be a solid business model as long as our economy is in trouble.

    Cons

Encore's main business is debt collection. Brandon Black, the CEO, once told a meeting of managers that even his conscious is bothered by the fact that the company makes money through the suffering of others.

The former CIO was fired due to "lack of confidence" and there has been a lot of turnover in the IT department due to political rivalries and a pay scale that is about 30% less than the local market. Ask them about turnover in the Business Intelligence team for a good example of their current situation.

    Pros

Great people, from the top down - they truly care about their employees

    Cons

The company suffers from analysis paralysis. The company is constantly changing and people are shifted to and from departments every 6 months. Expectations are rarely clearly conveyed and you are constantly chasing a moving target during annual reviews.
