I have been working at Ensco

Pros

-Excellent retirment benefits
-Great pay for individuals who were retained from the Pride merger

Cons

-Lack of communication from upper management is frustrating
-Company has doubled but is ran as a small company(no procedures, no structure and no direction)
-Decisions are made by too few and usually by those who are not knowledgable enough or insecure
-Disturbing when asked about community involvement that the CIO says "We feel Ensco does not owe them anything."
-Penny pinching is very evident with the unwillingness to hire more than absolute base essential headcount even when it is not enough

Advice to ManagementAdvice

IT upper management does not seem to have a thorough understanding of implementing an enterprise network due to lack of understanding or "we have always do it that way" frame of mind. Technological decisions made are counter intuitive of Microsoft or industry standards and is costing the company more than saving in productivity and resources.

    I worked at Ensco full-time

    Pros

    The compensation and benefits is acceptable among other oil and gas drilling contractors in the world. It is well known in Ensco that on-shore expatriates, and off-shore crews are 'pampered'. If you are however on the local payroll, you may have to manage your expectations.

    Cons

    Go Beyond is the main message of the Company's vision, and values, and it means employees are expected not to be mediocre folks. but to produce exceptional results.

    The previous management style (prior to the change of CEO, Dan Raban) was out-of-date (micro-management), high turn-overs are evident across regions and certain departments, and there were no transparency for important information or discussion properly disseminated to the employees. It was tough to convince the management to promote or to retain certain employee despite hard evidence and facts of good performance being presented, and some individuals are victims of dismissal due to bias and redundancy.

    Being an on-shore personnel (non-expatriate) working in Asia, there is no work-life balance and it includes the weekends.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    In one of the five Ensco's core values - Success for employees, customers, and shareholders, you need to re-think what success have you provided to your employees.

    1. The management needs to dedicate time to analyse and find out why are there high turnovers in the Company.
    2. The management needs to adopt a coaching and mentoring approach, rather than micro-management or finger-pointing.
    3. The management needs to 'listen' to the employees' voice by regularly holding town-hall sessions.

    Very goog salary, health package, ....
