I have been working at Epic

ProsFrom an implementation/project management standpoint, Epic really has its stuff down. You can jump into any project and more or less know what you need to do next. I definitely miss the infrastructure-- the internal wiki, project document templates, and ticket system (Sherlock) are great tools that shouldn't be taken for granted.

I'll agree with most reviewers in saying that your colleagues at Epic are exceptionally good-- both capable and willing. Also, the "use your best judgment" mentality is a very nice environment to work in-- there's a lot of red tape, as with any large organization, but for the most part, you're free to make your own decisions.

ConsIt's a worker bee culture; do until you drop. Also, contrary to most reviewers, I would say that the pay pretty much stinks, especially considering the work load. I got a 20% raise when I took a comparable job at another organization; once I'm through with my non-compete clause, I expect to earn about twice what I did at Epic. So, great pay for a rookie just out of undergrad, but not so great once you've got some experience and skill under your belt.

Also, PTO is pretty meager, and Epic still uses sick days. I went from 15 days vacation, 6 days sick leave, and 6 holidays to 31 days PTO with 11 mandatory holidays. (So, I have 20 days a year that I can use however I see fit.) Still really annoyed about the 20 sick days I had to leave on the table when I left; Epic doesn't pay out for sick days. (Way to reward honesty, gang.)

Advice to Senior ManagementYou really need to foster a more human friendly culture. I would suggest recruiting a couple of folks who really understand human resource management. More flexibility around remote work, PTO vs. sick days, and flextime/job-sharing could probably save you a fortune in facilities and turnover.
