I have been working at Epocrates

Pros

The people who work for Epocrates make the company satisfying
The product is very well respected and has a good reputation in the medical community
Work life balance

Cons

Compensation isn't competitive
Executive leadership isn't leading with passion and isn't innovative
401K
Very limited vision/communication regarding company goals and direction and isn't motivating for employees

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider making employees feel more like they are a part of the company and increase communication with employees so they feel like they are a part of the company. It is creating a lack of direction and guidance and change is good but way too much change and poor decision making as of late.

I have been working at Epocrates

    Pros

Small company feel, still a startup in some respects. Great smart people. Flexible work hours and generally a good work life balance. Strong brand name, generally high morale.

    Cons

Terrible benefits package - no 401(K) match, HR process is broken. Still needs to bridge the gap in product management and technology. Needs better leadership in product management and synchronization with engineering. Tends to approve products that have poor ROI, needs better product marketing analysis. Marketing folks are absolutely clueless. The product sells itself, we can scrap the marketing departments and still do fine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

See above. Focus on the core competencies, cut down on money losing products. Focus on retaining customers. Explore ad-revenues in the free products Don't buy useless small companies (they come with a lot of baggage). Hire competent people and fire incompetent people sooner.

    I worked at Epocrates

    Pros

Vacation policy, industry leader, growth potential, many senior positions opening, ability to get in on the ground floor of building a new company culture.

    Cons

All new senior management, currently recovering from the effects of a mismatched CEO, per recent press releases the company is searching for a new direction which will likely lead to churn.
